Texas lovers of events that are looking for new things to fill their time between conventions, rejoice and look no further!
We here at IHOGeek.com have the privilege to introduce one of the coolest ideas I’ve heard in a long time. The first Grand Phoenix Formal, a six hour long formal ball, is an amazing event that promises a night of music, dancing, and most importantly, fun! If you aren’t intrigued by now, trust me, read on.
Ben Ambroso, the Grand Phoenix Formal’s director and man behind the madness of letting us get to live out our dreams of attending the “Shindig” episode of Firefly, had this to say about his event.
“We’re trying to cater towards a bit more of the nerd-age while keeping it classy. The music played may even be ballroom style variations of favorites from video games, anime, and etc.”
With everything from musical performers to on-site photographers offering shoots, the Grand Phoenix Formal is shaping up to be THE event to go to between SDCC and AFest for us Texas natives.
And did I mention that it’s a formal ball? That means it also includes one of con-goers favorite things to do: dress up!
The dress code is very straightforward and will be enforced at the door, so those trying to enter the premises in their casual Converse or short dresses will be turned away. But what does that mean for us cosplaying connoisseurs? Fortunately, cosplay is not only accepted, it is encouraged! Though you may want to design an original outfit to fit the dress code standards if your character doesn’t have formal attire.
The first Grand Phoenix Formal will be held on August 4th from 7PM – 1AM at the Cascade Event Center in The Colony, Texas! The full list of rules, event schedules and ticket information can be found on the official website, grandphoenixformal.com. There is also one final set of free tickets up for grabs on their Official Facebook Page!
Now if you’ll excuse me, this nerd has to find an acceptable ball gown. See you all snazzied up in August!
